Lycanestra and the Wolves

Lycanestra is one aspect of the goddess. In this avatar she is the mother of the night . Her scepter is the moon. Wolves gather at her feet as she rises out of the cauldron of fire. With one hand she blesses, with the other she condemns. She is formless so her figure is formless, negative space, a hallow core of paper mache.

She represents that which is hidden, secretative and ineffable. She is the eternal mystery dancing with laughter at our attempts to understand the world.

This one-of-a-kind hanging wall sculpture was created in 1997. I used brown paper bags that were soaked in a proprietary glue mixture. The soaked paper strips were wrapped around a steel armature.

This work is for sale. The starting price is: $4000.
